When the play opens, we see Harry Berlin, a beatnik who has sunk so low that honest beatniks would disown him. He has no future except to jump off the bridge and is about to do so when Milt Manville, an old college buddy, comes along and interrupts him, "Is it.... (Harry turns, stares down at him.) No. Harry Berlin! It thought so! I just caught a glimpse of you, and I said to myself, I bet that's Harry Berlin. I just bet that's Harry Belin.
